Our (temporary) guide and us all had a nice dinner atop a tower with a panoramic view of the city and surrounding mountains, to get to know one another. There are only 3 of us, a small group, and we will be spending lots of time together in the next 2 weeks. The other two clients know one another, they met while traveling last year. They are both from Hong Kong, and have promised to teach me to count to 10 in Cantonese, as well as learn to say a few other things. Lesson number one went badly. I have already forgotten how to say 10!
Now, we have to finish packing. Tomorrow, most of our stuff will be sent to the Base Camp by mules. It will take us 3 days of walking to get there ourselves. We have to keep with us some warm clothes and our sleeping bag. One reason for going so slow is to acclimitize. I am confident that I should be alright with this, as the base camp (also called plaza de mulas) is at the same level as El Salto, which is as high as I got while in Vallecitos. Before that, we will be spending two nights at an intermediate camp called Confluencia. During the day, we will trek for a few hours to go admire the view of the southern face of Aconcagua.
I am excited and edgy at once!
Apparently, there will be internet at base camp. I have no idea how much it costs, but think it may be too expensive to do often. If I can, however, I will do my best to keep this updated!
And sorry about not putting up any pictures- I transfered them all to a DVD, only to realize that no internet cafe here is equipped to be able to take them.
